All About James

My Hobbies & Interests:
I like to attend public events, such as sports games (football, basketball, and soccer to be specific), musicals and plays, and movies. I also like living so close to the mountains during the summer. I like to go hiking and camping. I also love spending time with my family playing card games. It's always fun to compete against my siblings in a vicious game of Scattergories. Heather always wins though!

I also love to travel! Since Heather and I have been married, we have been to Alaska, Tennessee, Chicago, Canada, Mexico, and Jamaica. I also love family history. I like to discover my roots as to where I came from. I love to sing. I used to be involved in choirs, but my biggest audience now is my shower head and our cat, Lilly. I love learning new things - such as politics, home repair, current events, and cooking. I've finally mastered the art of toast!!!

James... aka Chuck Norris
RaNdOm ThInGs AbOuT mE:

A game I like to play is:
Hide and Go Seek! When Heather and I get bored, we sometimes play Hide and Go Seek in the house. (Nerdy, right!!!) Only problem... our cat Lilly always cheats! She'll stand by wherever I'm hiding so it makes it easy for Heather to find me!
The music I listen to most is:Almost anything - the radio is always on in our car. My favorite music is pop or country.

My favorite band is:
Nickel Creek - their bluegrass sound is right up my alley! It's too bad that the band broke up because they rock!

A movie I watch over and over is:
Goonies - In the immortal words of Sloth: "Hey you gu-ys!"

A T.V. show I watch regularly is:
Glee! I was in choir all through middle and high school, and was part of a show choir in college. Glee brings back all of the fun choir memories!

If I could afford anything at this moment I would buy:
A trip to Brazil. I have had an itinerary planned since Heather and I got married and we still haven't made it down there.

A smell that makes me pause is:
Mountain rain - I love camping in the mountains when a calm rainstorm passes. It makes the campsite seem refreshed.

My favorite sport to watch is:
I prefer sports live rather than watching on TV - the action is more exciting. I love football, basketball and soccer.

The city I would most like to visit is:
Nashville - I have been there tons of times and I love going back. It must be the country boy in me!

My favorite restaurant is:
Cafe Rio - they have the best beef burritos in town!

A moment when I achieved absolute happiness was:
Proposing to Heather! The night turned out perfect and there were no hiccups, but tons of nerves. I felt that I was on top of the world when she said yes.

My favorite meal is:
Sunday dinner! My mom was the best cook, and Sunday’s were always the best meals of the week. We would typically have roast beef or roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, rolls, Jell-O, and some sort of dessert. It was scrumptious! I'm totally a meat and potatoes kind a guy!

Someone or something that made me laugh this week was:
Heather - she is always making up funny songs just to get a laugh out of me. It always works :)

My earliest memory is:
Reading Wheedle on the Needle and playing Old Maid with my mom when I was 5 years old. Every night after my bath, my mom would read me a story, and if there was enough time, we would play some card games, like Old Maid or Go Fish. I remember she was also pregnant with my little brother, so sometimes she’d let me feel him kicking.

My first paying job was:
Paperboy. I got a paper route when I was a wee lad of 10! It was the same paper route my older brother had, and when I was ready to move on to my next job, I passed it on to my little brother - a real life family business!

My best birthday was:
Heather surprised me and took me on a 3-day trip to Chicago. She's a master planner so we were able to explore almost everything there is to do in Chicago in just 3 days, and we also went and saw the Broadway musical, “Wicked”. It was a blast!

A smell that reminds me of my childhood is:
Jiffy Blueberry Muffins. Once I learned how to cook, I would make blueberry muffins every Saturday morning for me and my little brother while we watched Saturday morning cartoons. Every time I make them now, it takes me back.

The story behind my name is:
There are two reasons I was named James. First, my mom had a tradition of naming her children based on the first letter of the month that they were born. Since I was born in July, my name had to start with a J so she decided on the name James. When she told my dad, he was excited for this name too because his great-grandfather was named James, so it was very fitting!

My favorite dessert is:
Just one? One of my favorite desserts is 4-layer chocolate cake, which is two chocolate cakes, cut in half, and on each layer is spread whipped cream except for the final layer that is covered in chocolate icing. My mom always made this cake for me on my birthday. I also love ice cream! My favorite flavor is Mint Oreo.

When I exercise, I like to:
uhhh, walk? It doesn’t seem so much like exercise :)

The best vacation I ever had was:
United Kingdom for 10 days. I went there with some friends after I graduated from college. We drove all around England, Wales, and Scotland. Who knew that England got so dark in the afternoon? It didn’t help out so much with sightseeing!

The best thing about being married is:
The constant friendship. Heather is my best friend and is always able to make me smile.

My favorite season is:
Fall - I love to see the colors changing on the trees, plus the fall holidays are my favorite!

My favorite song on my iPod right now is:
"Fireflies" by Owl City - my brother even added that song as my ringback when I call him!

My favorite American Idol is:
It's split between Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson - I secretly teared up when Kelly was named the first American Idol! Shhh- don't tell anybody!

If I could be a contestant on any reality show it would be:
The Amazing Race! Travelling around the world on somebody else's dime... sign me up!

If I could live in another decade, it would be:
The 1950's... it's the decade that my parents grew up in so I've been exposed to the fun music and dances of the time. You'd find me dancing at the sock hops while sporting a slick letterman's jacket!
